Percentages show up in everyday situations in a few different forms, and this tool covers the two most common: finding what a percentage of a number equals (e.g. 'what is 18% of 5000'), and finding what percentage one number is of another (e.g. '450 is what % of 5000'). Both use the same underlying relationship between part, whole and percentage โ just rearranged depending on which value you already know and which you're solving for.
It's simply (X รท 100) ร Y. For example, 18% of 5000 is (18 รท 100) ร 5000 = 900.
It's (X รท Y) ร 100. For example, if 450 out of 5000 is your question, that's (450 รท 5000) ร 100 = 9%.
